Narayana Gurukulam book release

The Gallery Hall at Hotel Shan Royal, Anna Nagar, had an air of spiritual ambience when at 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday there was a book release function organised by the Chintadripet Branch of the Narayana Gurukulam. The function was organised to release two books, 'Atmadarsana' and 'Narayana Guru Relevancy Today', both written by N C Kumaran.

Born in 1914 and an electrical engineer by profession, in 1954 he was made the head of Chintadripet Branch of the Narayana Gurukula, and organisation which propounds the dictum of universal brotherhood, through one sect one religion.

The book, Narayana Guru Relevancy Today, talks about the spiritual unity, which forms the cornerstone of India's cultural heritage, and how Sanatana Dharma alone can promote the basic values of life. As a wisdom teacher par excellence, Narayana Guru revalued and restated religion, to suit the climate of the times.

The book Atmadarsana, is a condensation of Atmaupadesha Shataka by Narayana Guru himself.

The gathering was addressed, among others, by Swamy Suvignananda, a well known figure in Chennai, exponent of Vedanta of Narayana Guru. He spoke at length on the concept of God, of an absolute being, and the contribution of N C Kumaran in propounding the teachings of Narayana Guru, the 20th century representative of Adi Sankara.

Swami Peter Oppenheimer, a graduate in psychology from Stanford University, began a study of the philosophy, mysticism of the East, primarily that of India. He came in contact with Nitya and Nataraja Guru, and wrote many books, of them 'The Blessing of Not Being Educated'. Speaking about his personal experiences with Nataraja Guru, he gave a glimpse of how the East meets the West : and blends beautifully in doing so!.

The first copy of the books was presented to Swamy Swarupananda and Kasturi Gopalakrishna.

A discount of 20 per cent on the sale of the books was offered at the venue.
