The Madras Round Table 1 organised an inter-school painting competition for special children at Lady Nye School, Pallipattu with the intention of encouraging and motivating them and bringing to the fore their creative skills.
This competition was held on 9th August for children from The Clarke School for the Deaf, Spastic Society of Tamil Nadu, Spastic Society of India, Seva Samajam Children's Home, CSI School for the Deaf and Dumb, Pathway, St. Louis School, Annanagar Handicap Home, Andhra Mahila Sabha and We Can School for Autism.
Children who are physically handicapped, mentally handicapped, the blind, the deaf and dumb, the autistic and spastic, those suffering from Down's Syndrome and the blind participated in this competition.
A. Sunil Kumar, aged eight years, who had lost both hands was seen painting with his feet.
The association between Madras Round Table 1 and Lady Nye School extends over 4 decades and they have the distinction of having sponsored the education and other needs of 65 orphaned children. The school has 600 students and The Madras Round Table 1 has contributed towards the infrastructure of the school such as renovating classrooms, kitchens, bathrooms and other facilities. It has also built a modern computer lab and is in the process of building a vocational centre that will impart employment oriented training to the students.
