Road to Safety on Roads

"Life is what you make of it; no matter what it is made of" - this catch line was the crux of the road safety campaign conducted by the post graduate students in Communication of MOP Vaishnav College for Women. The campaign was inaugurated by GUG Sastry, the Joint Commissioner of Traffic. The five day long campaign covered ten schools in five different zones of Chennai.

The campaign comprised a presentation of a film on road safety, directed by Balaji Prasad of "Reel Routes". The four and a half minute film moved through the three colours of the traffic signal- red, amber and green; red signified the don'ts of road safety, amber specified the awareness level existing and green signified the catch line.

The campaign had its valedictory function at MOP Vaishnav College for Women on August 29, 2003. It was presided over by Mahesh Agarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Traffic. There was also an interactive session with the students by Subramaniam, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic; Ganesh, Director, Trauma Care Consortium; Natarajan, the RTO; among others.

Mahesh Agarwal praised the efforts taken by the students and added that the campaign should also be extended beyond August 29, 2003, and said that the Traffic Department would extend their support for the same. He also commended the creativity and the efforts of the students.

In addition to this, there was also a demonstration by TVS Scooty and Kinetic Honda companies, regarding riding and maintenance of two wheelers.

The main sponsors of the campaign were Visteon Software Operations India and Eikon Academy. David Avery of Visteon Software Operations India, and Harsha Vardhan of Eikon Academy also participated in the campaign. T-shirts sponsored by Visteon Software Operations India and Eikon Academy were distributed to those who won a lucky dip contest.
