Those who wish to worship the towering icon of
32 ft Anjaneyar
will have to wait patiently till June 28. Probably, he is on a vacation, remarked a child who was disappointed when he could not see the Lord. None of the other deities are seen, do not tell me they are resting in a hill station to escape the miserable Chennai summer, quipped his brother.
Their doubts were clarified by one of the members of the Maruthi Baktha Samajam Trust, who was standing nearby, listening to the conversation of the children.
Since the temple is under renovation, the sanctum sanctorum has been closed and the utsava murtis are assembled in the adjoining hall on the temple premises, stated the member. During this time, one can worship only the utsava
murtis.
The icons of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Anjaneyar, Rukmini, Sathyabama and Krishna can be propitiated in the adjoining hall. And the lip-smacking prasadam is distributed without fail.
The temple floor is being re-laid and the walls, whitewashed. This cleaning operation is called samprokshanam, which is normally done once in 12 years. Repair work is being done and the samprokshanam is scheduled for June 28.
The trustees propose to conduct homam for five days preceeding the samprokshanam followed by religious discourses and music concerts. This will be followed by mandala pooja for 48 days.
The trust has undertaken a mammoth task of adorning the feet of the gods and goddesses with the precious yellow metal - GOLD. It will be fixed between the feet of the gods and the peedam and is called
'Swarnabandhanam'.
This event is to be performed during the samprokshanam and 10 kg of gold is required for this
divine cause. Swarnabandhanam remains in tact till the next samprokshanam. It is a Herculean task but the Almigthy will take care of it, declares a member of the trust, fully dependent on Providence.
Donations in cash or kind should be deposited only at the temple counter and receipt should be obtained.
