The installation of the idol will be etched in the memory of many as it was a 'Herculean task'. The sculptor found that the eyes of the Lord were tilting towards the left. He was unable to understand the reason for this strange happening. The founders' interpretation proved to be convincing to the devout multitude.
Anjaneyar's eyes were not slanted, he was only glancing at his favourite disciple, Raghavendra Swamy. Does it not sound right?
This guru is waiting to bless his devotees abundantly. Anjaneya is the guru to mankind and serves as a beacon light. Devotion is a launch pad to salvation. By practising the doctrine of 'surrender', he paves the way for our liberation. Thus, he is appropriately called 'Aadhi Vyadhihara Bhakta Anjaneyar', meaning one who wipes out the 'karma vyadhi'. He is a cosmic doctor not only curing the anatomical abnormalities but also the maladies of the heart and mind. Bhakti towards the Lord is a panacea.
The construction of the gopuram, which is a canopy over the sanctum sanctorum, the lift (to carry offerings to Hanuman) was undertaken by a philanthropic group. That group was upset to see the temple without a super structure and the sanctum sanctorum without a proper roof.
The temporary thatched roof had been blown away by a gusty wind. It was probably a special way of the Vayuputra attracting the attention of the devotees for a 'roof'! This particular group had visited the temple on a particular day when the roof was missing. After having a rendezvous with the Lord, the group came forward to undertake this work. We can call it a coincidence or purposeful visit, Vayuputra knows the ways and means of fulfilling the 'divine work'.
Generally, it is only after the construction of the super structure is the idol consecrated. Here it was vice-versa.
The construction of the super structure will be marked in the annals of history because the last time a similar thing was done was during the reign of Raja Raja Chola. Yes, the temple is the famous Brahadeeswara Temple, Thanjavur. Nanganallur is synonymous with Viswaroopa Anjaneya and this will continue for
aeons.
The temple kalasam is made of copper and laced with gold. The tall tower, which is 92 feet, beckons the devotees from all over. I am not exaggerating if I say that all roads in Nanganallur lead to this famous temple.
