Bang on target
It
seemed worth all the trouble he had put in during those 18 months. Vasagan Arasu,
insurance care consultant (they are no longer simply insurance agents), Allianz
Bajaj, had sweated it out to get 78 lives insured in that short span. His
company rewarded him with a 'silver grade' award.
The honour came with a big
treat: The company took all the top achievers to Malaysia and Singapore and
allowed them to spend two days and two nights in the lap of luxury Star cruiser,
'Superstar Virgo'.
Basically an accountant by
profession, Arasu, a Chennaivasi, turned his attention towards his long-time
dream of becoming an insurance agent only recently. He says whenever he
travelled by train, he saw LIC officials campaigning to recruit agents for LIC.
Though he missed the opportunity of becoming an LIC insurance care consultant he
says he was fortunate to join Allianz Bajaj.
One fine morning he noticed a
pamphlet lying at home, which asked, 'You want to achieve higher goals in your
life? Contact me'. Arasu called the number on the pamphlet, and the man on the
other side turned out to be the sales team manager of Allianz Bajaj. He explained the
whole concept of insurance and how Allianz has a better edge than any other
company. Impressed by the concept, Arasu became a full-time insurance care
consultant.
He
underwent training for 100 hours and had to write an objective-type online exam.
After this, he was granted a licence from IRDA, which is mandatory for every
insurance agent.
"Insurance was my
long-time dream. As an accountant, I could not fulfil my dream. I was just
working for the financial benefit of the company, by which only my company
benefited. As an insurance care consultant, I can serve the community by
insuring their precious lives," he explains.
He says India is a potential
market for insurance as not many people understand the value of insuring
themselves. In USA, more than 90 per cent of the people have insured their lives
and in Japan, 108 per cent, says Arasu.
Arasu
won the silver grade in his company by insuring 78 lives with the average
premium level being Rs 8,000. The award was also for 100 per cent persistence!
The award ceremony took place
November 11 at the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. In all, 141 achievers from
India took part in the week-long tour, the highlight of which was the luxury
cruise. The comforts of the ship and the courtesy of the staff will stay on
Arasu's mind for a long time to come. But there is also a chance that he might
forget it soon.
You
see, he is confident that by outperforming his own record of insuring 78 lives
and crossing the average premium mark of Rs 8,000, he can visit other countries
in the world. Allianz Bajaj selects the top performers in its organisation and
felicitates them at functions organised in a capital of a foreign country. Who
knows where Arasu will be next year?
The company has won great
appreciation from its consultants for motivating them with rewards like this.
Arasu has won cash award and watches for his earlier achievements. He was
invited to a grand gala dinner with the regional sales manager for topping the list in
selling child care policies: 10 policies within a month.
About his plans, he said 10
years from now he would have done business of Rs 10 lakh and more for the
company and would have travelled to many parts of the world. Here's wishing you
all the best.
