Counselling the right person at the right time

Dr T R Suresh's Profile

"There is no point in counselling students after the results are announced to prevent suicides. It has to begin at the time of the academic year," says Dr T R Suresh, a renowned psychiatrist of Chennai.

"And, mind you, it is not enough if we counsel the students. Actually, it is more important to counsel their parents to prevent any unseemly fallout of a bad result or poor performance," explains the doctor in his soft voice.

The poor performance of students in school/college is not the main problem. There is another underlying reason/cause for a student not concentrating on studies. He says one can help such students get back on track with the right kind of counselling.
