Profile of Surya
The actor is hot property now. He has AVM's
Perazhagan slated for release on May 6. A couple of weeks later, Maniratnam's Aaytha Ezhuthu is scheduled for release. With two big banner films releasing in the same month,
Surya has his hands full, allotting time for the promotion of the films and handling the spate of enquiries from friends and fans regarding the films.
After the twin success of
Kaakka Kaakka and
Pithamagan in quick time,
Surya is on cloud nine. He is now rated amongst the top five heroes of the state along with
Rajnikant,
Kamal Hassan,
Vikram and
Vijay.
His has been a steady and meteoric rise, with
Nanda being a crucial film.
He never thought he would become an actor, though his father
Sivakumar was a leading thespian. Sometimes, when he would travel in a bus (in his early days) he was frustrated because no one took notice of him.
He is choosy about his roles and doesn't believe in grabbing every role that comes his way. In January 2005, he will commence shooting for a film under the banner of
Gemini Productions launched by director
Saran who turns producer with this untitled film.
Director Hari will direct this film which would be released in August.
Like his father, Surya is a highly respected artiste in the film industry.

About Perazhagan
Starring -- Surya, Jyothika
Director - Sashi Shankar
Music - Yuvan Shankar Raja
The film is woven around a hunchback (played by Surya) and his emotions.
Besides Surya and Jyothika, the film has
Manickavinayagam, Sukumari,
Manorama and others in the cast.
For a change, both the hero and the heroine have dual roles in the movie!
This is the 166th film of the AVM banner. The Tamil film is a remake of the Malayalam film 'Kunhikoonan' in which Dileep played the role of the hunchback. A newcomer plays the villain in the Tamil version which has been modified to suit the Tamil audience, although the film was shot in
Kerala.
Surya has tried to do his own version of the role, without being affected by Dileep's performance. He claims that the inspiration for his role came not from many institutions
for the handicapped which he visited but while watching a programme on monkeys on
Discovery Channel.
