Sudha: Lakshmi, I have had a one-to-one experience, esp. when I was 2 or 3 yrs old.
Sudha: I had the good fortune of sitting on his lap, pressing his feet, pulling his hair. What more can I say to express the closeness, Lakshmi?

Guest: What is ur next film song ?
Sudha: Guest, Ilayaraja's music direction, I forget the name of the movie, and some authentic classical singing in an art film for which Rajiv Menon is the cinematographer and I am singing for Shabana Azmi.

Guest: I have been watching your music last 1.5 decades. What keeps you going ? Any further plans of singing in films? My daughter wants to learn music from you. She is 6 years old. She also comes with us to your concerts.
Sudha: Guest, the enthusiasm of my rasikas keeps me going besides my own goal that I need to reach. Further, film songs are dependant on time availability and quality of the song.
Sudha: Guest, I might not have time for your 6 yr old right now, but soon, may be.

Chandru: Why have you not given any Sai bhajans in any cassette so far? Is there any special reason?
Sudha: Chandru, it has not just happened, he needs to grace the thought.

Sudha: Rasikapriyan, partially, I will also blame the rasikas to some extent.

Sudha: Hummah, I've sung for a global fusion which includes some western tunes too.

Ramesh: When you sang the film song in Simhendramadhyamam, and Subbudu put his hand on his head when you kind of slip.........did you not feel a bit strange to do such a recording?
Sudha: Ramesh, truly, but that was what was reqd to bring about a turning point in the film.

Sudha: Melody, best performance depends not just on the singing part; also could be due to the audience, ambience, accoustics.

Sudha: Hummah, my goal is taking carnatic music from thousands to millions of people.

Sudha: Sahana, my fav ragas are several like-- subapantuvarali, kalyani, hameer, kapi.

Why have you never had a disciple singing with you so far?
Sudha: Rasigapriyan, soon it will be so.

Myra: I am just a music lover, don't know much about it. Is there lot of difference in voice modulation in stages & while in studios?
Sudha: Myra, there is difference, more modulation perhaps in live concerts, studio effects can be manipulated.

Vidhyasai: R u doing any other albums?
Sudha: Vidhyasai, I am doing several albums.

Manjari: Suggest a few good teachers in carnatic music for children.
Sudha: Manjari, depends on their availability and the level that u seek; I can mail u depending on ur specific requirements.

Sudha: Guest46, the younger lot are prone to diversify activities and are open to innovations.

Rasikapriyan: I do not agree - it is the artist who has a commitment to keep up the standard of Carnatic music -- I feel the majority of the artists are pandering to the masses instead of raising the bar -- your comments?
Sudha: Rasikapriyan, depends on the place where we sing.

Subash: What's the reason, nowadays carnatic music doesn't reach the youngsters?
Sudha: Subash, youngsters don't have the time or the inclination for anything serious.

Nanda: Were u interested in singing from childhood?
Sudha: Nanda, what started as a hobby turned out to be a career.

Mals: Why are youngsters more interested in listening to pop than carnatic?
Sudha: Mals, cos it's easier on the ear and easier to repeat.

Vidhyasai: When did u start ur career?
Sudha: Vidhyasai, when i was 19.

Vijaya: What is ur advice for young carnatic musicians?
Sudha: Vijaya, dedication to practice.

Manjari: How did u get a chance to learn thru MLV?
Sudha: Manjari, under central govt sponsorship scheme I got the opportunity.

Melody: Well then let me put it this way: The performance where u felt that u have sung for ur life's contentment?
Sudha: Melody, not yet, not yet.

Vidhyasai: What is ur favourite ragam?
Sudha: Vidhyasai, I've several, among them are sahana, desh, behaag, 

Padma: My niece is interested in learning from you.
Padma: Do u mind taking lessons for my niece? we live very close to ur house?

Sudha: Padma, has she learnt music before?

Myra: Are you developing sishyas to follow your style in carnatic music.
Sudha: Myra, certainly yes.
Vidhyasai: Basically what r the things necessary to develop the voice. Give me some tips. Actually, I am learning carnatic music.
Sudha: Vidhyasai, restricted practice, listening to tapes to get variety of voice modulation.

Mahesh: Definitely in Mylapore Fine Arts Club some time back ( it was a 4 hours concert).
Sudha: Mahesh, well, best could be different to different people.

Ramu: Do you propose to create kirthanas like your Guru? (at least after some time?)
Sudha: Ramu, she never created kirtanas, she set music, that's it.

Vidhyasai: For how many hours do u practice before going to the cutcheri?
Sudha: Vidhyasai, difficult to practice now before kutcheris but I used to for a couple of hrs.

Sudha: Alai, romba santhosham.

Padma: We want to know ur routine.
Sudha: Padma, on my days off I force myself to take my mind off music .
Sudha: Otherwise, it is yoga, a little nap, a little cooking, socialising, etc.

Sudha: Ram, namaskaram, may be in 2004.

Rasikapriyan: Do you think a good carnatic singer should really delve into film music--especially given the type of film music that is on today?
Sudha: Rasikapriyan, I am becoming ur rasika, ur questions are sharp, I think ur fairly right, we really don't need to .

Mahesh: Can you recommend a music teacher in Velachery?

Vijaya: CA is great, would be greater if you visited more often...
Sudha: Vijaya, too frequent is poison.

Melody: How would u like to use ur music if u had been given a chance apart from normal concerts - any specific goal??
Sudha: Melody, I am planning a thesis on music as therapy.

Vinoth: You enjoy icecreams or not?

Sudha: Chandru41, probably I was emotionally charged, I had prepared enna kavi but had my last minute nervousness, as to whether I could match the maestro's mastery.

Millenium: Is it better for an artiste to go to stage to perform without any practice..in the sense will it give more spontaneity?
Sudha: Millennium, practice doesn't mean u have to practice what u are going to sing that day; practice is to season the voice.

Sudha: Chandru41, talk to him and fix up the time and date .

Rasikapriyan: How would you rate your performances say about 5 or 6 years ago to your more recent performances--which do you feel are better?
Sudha: Rasikapriyan, concerts are more mature now, 5 yrs back I was more adventurous.

Sudha: Gaya3guru, thank u, not this yr, the project is very expensive.

Millenium: Is it possible to bring only audava ragas in sruthi bedham?For example I have heard MLV amma sing mohanam by doing sruthi bedham in Rishabam of Thodi.
Sudha: Millennium, u can bring a lot of ragas, not necessarily audava.

Gaya3guru: Which is your favourite raaga, favourite song and favourite conposer?
Sudha: Gaya3guru, ragas I've listed already, fav song ( like baro krishnayya), composers Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa and Sivan, among others.

Chandru41: Ma'am, I'm not able to get the casettes u hv released on Sankarcharya during 1992. Do u hv plans to replicate it under amudham banner since it is not available anywhere in the city.
Sudha: Chandru41, we will try.

GVDUBAI: Ma'am, I am a Mridangist. I learnt from my grandfather Vadakancheri Krishna Iyer who served in Rishi Valley School, who accompanied ur Guru MLV.

Rasikapriyan: Do you believe that barring a few, for most of today's artists raga alapanas and that too, of the 5 big ragams are going out of vogue?
Sudha: Rasikapriyan, I agree with u a little.
