Veteran
violinist T N Krishnan has built an edifice on sadhana. His concert
at the Anjaneyar temple, Nanganallur, for Pavaman Annadhanam Trust,
along with his daughter, Viji Natarajan, was comprehensively
classic. The duo started off with an invocation to Lord Ganesha,
Vatapi Ganapathim, in Hamsadhwani by Muthuswamy Dikshitar which was
packed with swaras and sailed into the sedate.
‘Rama Bkati Samrajyam’ in Suddha Bangala by Tyagaraja was full of
bhava and bhakti. Their swara passages were classic.
Krishnan and Viji took turns to embellish the sketch of
Shanmukapriya for ‘Saravana Bhava’ by Papanasam Sivan. The
heart-rending sangatis were a colourful musical portrait.
The
piece de resistance was ‘Nagumomu’ in Abheri by Tyagaraja. Their
exposition of the raga was superlative and the barrage of swaras had
an exquisite glow and finesse.
Tiruvarur Bakthvatsalam on the mridangam wielded the percussive
baton.
H Sivaramakrishnan on the ghatam was elegant without being
opulent.
Their tani was well knit with a wealth of musical ideas.
