The December season has come to an end in most of the city sabhas.
But for rasikas who are still not satisfied and want to enjoy more
concerts, there is the sixth annual music festival of Sri Bhairavi
Gana Sabha.The festival was inaugurated by V R Lakshminarayanan,
IPS, chairman, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, at Vidya Bharathi,
Bheemasena Garden Road, Mylapore, on January 4.
A. Natarajan, former director, Chennai Doordarshan, and
president, Sri Bhairavi Gana Sabha, welcomed the gathering and L
Sabaretnam, CEO, Coromandel Sugars Ltd, was the chief guest.
Natarajan said when he spoke to Lakshminarayanan about the 3-day
music festival, the former Director General of Police immediately
agreed to inaugurate it. Natarajan also said Sabaretnam had
contributed a lot to the success of Karthik Fine Arts.
In his inaugural address, Lakshminarayanan said not so long ago,
film music was more popular among people and he recalled a concert
where famous vocalist K J Yesudas was asked to perform film songs.
But there has been a reincarnation of Carnatic music for the past 20
years, he added. He also said, “There is no encouragement for young
artistes and it should be changed.”
Sabaretnam wished success for the music festival.
The inaugural function was followed by a vocal concert by Sudha
Ragunathan.
The music festival is on till January 6. It starts everyday at
6.30 p.m.
