Here
is an opportunity for the street food lovers to taste their
favorite recipes at one place. Celebrating the flavours of
the southern states, Paprika at the Court Marriott is showcasing
an extensive spread from the culinary archives of street cuisine
from South India. The food festival ‘Streets of South India’,
which started on January 21, is on till February 10.
A typical street with a woman selling
flowers, parrot reading, bangle shops and coconut cart are
portrayed. Chennai is famous for Marina beach, which in turn is
well known for sundal. Here also, a man goes about the hall in
his cycle with a basket full of sundal. Tea and petty shops and
omelet shops with movie posters are very realistic. The centers
of attraction are kuchi ice and the flute seller.
Apart
from these, food items like Hyderabad Biriyani, Kebab, dosa and
appam are part of the food carnival. The odd man out is the
pizza, which the chef says is the favourite of all. However, all
these cuisines are not priced individually. For Rs 895, one can
enjoy everything, right from the coconut to the Biriyani, says
Prakash Jayadevan, Executive Sous Chef.
He
also said, “The ‘Streets of South India’ is our humble effort to
provide our diners with a sense of history and a delightful
culinary experience. We strongly feel that the streets are
repositories of knowledge, information and entertainment in the
southern heartlands and we wanted to capture that”. This is
indeed a new experience for the foreigners who stay here and
they are enjoying themselves, Prakash adds. On the whole, those
who visit Paprika would have a great and different experience.
