--------Charmi
Charmi entered the Tamil Film World through 'Kathal
Azhivathillai', pairing Simbu. Since she didn't get many roles
in Tamil, she went towards Telugu. Today, she is the Queen of
Telugu movies. She was in Chennai recently. She shares her

Entry into Films? : I was doing many
ad films. T R Sir came across my photo. I was at Mumbai at that
time. When I met him, he rendered a dialogue and showed me how
to act for that. When I emulated it, he told me,”You are the
heroin for the movie Kathal Azhivathillai and handed over an
advance amount to me.”
First day's shooting? : It was at a
college near Chennai. Everyone at the set – from the light boy
to the Assistant Director – almost threatened me saying, 'T R
gets irritated very soon. So, listen to him carefully and act
accordingly'. When the first shot was okayed at the first take,
my joy knew no bounds.
Was your entry an accident? : I am not
prepared to utter such lies. Initially, I wanted to act in Hindi
movies. There was intense competition there. When I was made to
wait, the Tamil offer came my way. It was my childhood dream to
become a star.
Films acted? : fourteen including
Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
About Telugu Cinema? : When there was
no fresh offer from Tamil, I did a role in Nagarjuna's Boss in
Telugu. It was a super hit, beyond all expectations. I became a
lucky star there. Nayantara and I had acted along with Venkatesh
in the film Lakshmi. It was a super-duper hit!! I have seven
Telugu films in hand.
Your competitor? I can name many like
Nayantara, Shreya, Iliyana, Thamanna and Sneha. Of course, I
have no jealousy.
Favourite location? Ramoji Rao Film
City in Hyderabad. Once you enter the City, you have everything
from a tea shop to an airport.
Love? I have not understood that yet.
Neither have I the time for that. That is because, I am now in
love only with the cinema.
Whom are you envious of? : Nandita Das,
Kajol, Simran
Directors whom you admire? Maniratnam,
Shankar, PooriJagannath and Teja
What have you learnt in the film world?:
It is difficult to discover as to whom to trust and whom not to.
Had you not chosen acting? : No doubt,
I would have only been a star. I had cent percent certainty in
this.
