Access ' 08 Events

“A meeting will be organised by the Chennai Corporation on March 17 to sort out the issues relating to the property tax revision sought by the public. The officials of the revenue department and the Metro Water department will also be present during the meeting”, said M. Subramanian, Mayor, Chennai Corporation, at the inauguration of Access ‘08.

Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) organises an International Industrial Expo at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam from March 7 to 10. It was inaugurated by the Mayor today and he said that the property tax has not been hiked.

Subramanian further said that the small industries development scheme introduced by the Government of Tamil Nadu will be beneficial for the small and tiny industries.

Shanmugavelayutham, President, TANSTIA, said that Access ’08 was the first exhibition organised by the TANSTIA and it would play a major role in increasing the production rate of the industries. He also said that more such exhibitions should be conducted at large level in order to improve the production.

K. M. Nair, Chief General Manager, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), Chennai said that around 95 % of industrial community represent small industries sector in India and Asia. Over 312 lakh of employment is generated in this sector. “The role of the sector is very crucial for economic growth and GDP”, he said. However, he said that around 80% of the small scale industries are in unorganised sector and they should be brought under organised sector.

Sivagnanam, Director, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)-Development Institute, Chennai; S. K. Prabakar, I. A. S, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation (TIIC); A. Kamalakkannan, zonal General Manager, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Chennai; G. Balakrishnan, Chairman, Access ‘08 and K. Gopalakrishnan, General Secretary, TANSTIA, were also present at the inaugural function.

Access '08 focuses on machinery including special purpose machines, machine tools, hydraulics & pneumatics, process engineering, automation, instrumentation and control, testing machines and IT for manufacturing, information, analysis, office automation and enterprise solutions.
