Madras or Chennai as it is called now means many things to many people.

It is the cultural capital.  It is a talent hub. It is known for its Idly, sambhar, temples, forts, talent and many other.  For people who do not belong to the city, it is a source of livelihood. Chennai is a melting pot of various cultures and it is growing from strength to strength.  My Madras and your Madras are different, but it means something for all of us.A city deserves celebrating its birthday and Madras definitely does. The founding day of Madras is considered to be August 22, 1639.
It was on that day, in that year, that a sliver of land, where Fort. St. George stands today, was transacted by the East India Company.
